There had been some talk of New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs possibly being released this off-season since he is set to make 4.65 million this coming season. That is simply too much money for a guy that was a back up in 2010 and will more then likely continue to back up Ahmad Bradshaw. I know Bradshaw will be a free agent, but I don’t think the Giants will allow him to test the market.
Last week Jacobs had indicated that he wasn’t sure whether he’d be back in 2011 as a Giant. it seems that general manager Jerry Reese doesn’t agree with Jacobs and believes he will be playing for the Giants this coming season.
“I guess you have to consider the source when Brandon starts talking,” said Reese. “You can’t read a lot into what Brandon is saying sometimes. We do expect Brandon to be part of the football team this fall. He is under contract. Brandon does talk a lot and like I said, sometimes you got to tune some of that stuff out that he is talking about.”
“He’s just talking,” Reese said. “Brandon likes to talk, sometimes he talks just to talk. Us here, in the Giants, in our building, we let some of that talk go off our back like a duck and we don’t worry about it too much.”
Reese also briefly commented on his former receiver Plaxico Burress being released from prison.
“First of all what I can say about that is I am happy that he is home with his family. And that’s really about all I can say, you know, he is a free agent and I am not at liberty to talk about free agents –- Plaxico or any other free agent at this time. I am just happy that he is home with his family.”
